چکیده

THE FLUORIMETRIC METHOD of Weil-Malherbe and Bone (1, 2), with minor modifications, has been applied successfully in this laboratory to the measurement of epinephrine and norepinephrine in the plasma of normal human subjects and rats subjected to traumatic injury. The measurement of these hormones in normal rats has been reported elsewhere (3). This report describes the modifications (resulting from the use of materials readily available in this country) which have been made, the precision and accuracy of the method, using both human and rat plasma, proof of specificity of the method as applied to rat plasma catechol amines, and the measurement of plasma catechol amines in human subjects of various ages.

Effect of epinephrine and cortisol on fasting-induced ghrelin secretion in male rats fed different levels of their energy requirement

Introduction: ghrelin is a potent orexigenic agent in rodents and humans. Some studies have shown that ghrelin participates in the adaptive response to weight loss and plasma concentration of ghrelin rises with dieting. On the other hand, weight loss and fasting is accompanied by increased levels of epinephrine and cortisol. In this study, we investigated the effects of epinephrine and corti...

Evaluation of the Neuroendocrine System and the cytokine pattern in warm and cold nature persons.

Introduction: Traditional Iranian medicine (TIM) is accompanied by little side effects in experience. The mechanisms involved in TIM are not much clear. The purpose of this study is assessment of differences of warm and cold nature persons in neuroendocrine system and cytokine pattern (Th1/Th2) of immune responses. Methods: Thirty seven 20 to 40 years old male volunteers were divided into 2 ...

Norepinephrine kinetics in freely moving rats.

Norepinephrine (NE) kinetics were investigated in freely moving (FM) and minimally stressed (MS) rats with the isotope dilution technique. 1) The mean NE spillover rate (NE-SOR) was 79 +/- 6 ng. kg(-1). min(-1), and the mean NE metabolic clearance rate (NE-MCR) 179 +/- 9 ml. kg(-1). min(-1) (n = 31). Thus the NE kinetics in FM and MS rats are much faster than in human beings, probably related t...

The wisdom of the body revisited: the adrenomedullary response to mild core hypothermia in humans.

OBJECTIVE In the 1920s, Walter B. Cannon first described the adrenomedullary response to cold, using an ingenious in vivo bioassay based on a denervated heart preparation. Studies in humans about antecubital venous plasma concentrations of norepinephrine, the sympathetic neurotransmitter, and of epinephrine, the main adrenomedullary hormone, have suggested sympathetic nervous system activation ...

Tyramine Reveals Failing α2-Adrenoceptor Control of Catecholamine Release and Total Peripheral Vascular Resistance in Hypertensive Rats

α2-Adrenoceptor-activation lowers central sympathetic output, peripheral, vesicular norepinephrine release, epinephrine secretion, and modulates vascular tension. We previously demonstrated that α2-adrenoceptor-mediated inhibition of basal norepinephrine release was not reflected in plasma unless re-uptake through the norepinephrine transporter (NET) was blocked. Tyramine activates reverse nore...
